BIOGRAPHY

Ramez Mhaanna is an internationally recognised classical pianist. He has completed his bachelors degree in Gnesin Academy of Music in Moscow and his Masters- and Soloist degrees in The Royal Danish Academy of Music.

From an early age he has won prizes in Danish and international piano competitions, among others first prize in Berlingske Tidernes Klassiske Musikkonkurrence 2006, first prize in “Musica Classica” in Moscow 2010 and first prize in “Musical Seasons in Prague” 2011. In recent years he was awarded, among other prizes, a Silver Medal in 1st Vienna Music Competition 2019 and the award for best performance of danish repertoire in Copenhagen Lied Duo Competition 2019. Besides that, he is the recipient of a number of honorary awards, among others - Leonié Sonnings Talentpris 2019, Carl Nielsen & Anne Marie Carl-Nielsens Talentpris 2020, Rødovre Musikpris 2022 and has been granted permission to borrow a brand new Steinway Grand Piano by the Augustinus Foundation in 2021.

 

Ramez have been performing solo and chamber music recitals in prominent music festivals in Denmark such as Copenhagen Summer Festival, Kulturmødet Mors and Bornholms Musikfestival, and in venues such as Tivoli Concert Hall, Den Sorte Diamant, DR Koncerthuset and Musikhuset Århus. He has been performing as a soloist with orchestras such as Århus Symfoniorkester, Nordic Chamber Orchestra, Qingdao Orchestra, Royal Danish Academy of Music Symphony Orchestra and Københavns Sinfonia.

I the years 2017/2019 Ramez toured often in China and have performed in more than 30 different major concert halls in the country. During his stay in Russia he has performed in prestigious festivals such as “V storonu Vyborga and “Levithan festival”.

In 2021 Ramez and violinist Christine Bernsted released two critically acclaimed albums - their debutalbum with Beethovens Kreutzersonata & Schuberts Fantasy for violin and piano and an album with Nordic Music - Violin sonatas by Grieg and Nielsen.

Ramez has in collaboration with Christine Bernsted produced the podcast CLASH which is an altenative podcast about classical music that makes the genre more accessible for a broader audience. The program has been called “original and insightful” by danish newspaper Politiken.

Together with Drag Queen Betty Bitchslap Ramez has created the show Kinky Classics that combines humor, drag and classical music, recently performed in theatre Grob, and has come on pov.international list of op 10 queer events in 2021.

 

Ramez is danish with a Russian and Lebanese background.
